Firefighters quickly learned that there were two people inside the home and made their way through heavy flames to try to save them, but were unable to.

One victim was found at the top of the stairwell, the other on the second floor. No one else was hurt.

The medical examiner identified one of the victims as 23-year-old Krystian Andrew McDonnell.

The words “love you” are seen written in soot on the car parked outside the damaged house where the young man and woman lived.

Neighbors are heartbroken and said the two had been in a relationship.

“It just hasn’t hit yet. Its just a tragic loss to the neighborhood and his family, young lives now gone. It happens too much too many people are dying,” neighbor Buddy Newman said.

Allegheny County police are investigating.
