PITTSBURGH — UPMC Hillman Cancer Center will be taking over the oncology care of patients in Somerset who are losing their coverage with the closing of an Allegheny Health Network practice earlier than expected.
UPMC and AHN had been in negotiations over the fate of the practice, which is located across from Somerset Hospital, which earlier this year became owned by UPMC. Plans had been in place to transition oncology from AHN to UPMC, including the practice and the physicians, as well as either leasing or purchasing the building. But plans to acquire the building fell through, according to UPMC. UPMC said the oncology practice had been scheduled to be closed in March and the care transitioned but that AHN made the decision to close the practice Jan. 31 instead.
