Wanted man tries to get away from troopers, crashes into car in Beaver Falls

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — A man with warrants out for his arrest was trying to get away from police in a minivan when he crashed into a car in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Troopers tried to stop the van driven by 44-year-old John Allen, of Pittsburgh, about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for a traffic violation in the area of Eighth Avenue, according to police. Allen then sped away, ignoring several stop signs.

Allen crashed into a car at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 37th Street Extension, police said. The driver and a passenger in the car were both hurt.

Investigators said Allen, who was also hurt, climbed out of the van through the driver’s side window and tried to resist arrest. He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for a head and spinal cord injury.

A trooper was treated at a hospital for exposure to Allen’s blood, police said.

The warrants out for Allen’s arrest were for misdemeanor theft and drug charges.
