WASHINGTON, Pa. — Leaders in Washington, Pennsylvania welcome new store owners to Main Street on Monday with the hope that these new shops will help revitalize the downtown.
“There are a lot of things to look forward to and be excited about,” said Main Street manager Shana Brown.
Brown said she and other leaders climbed a number of hurdles in order to get several buildings demolished at the corner of Main Street and Chestnut.
“Obviously it’s been a long time coming for some of these buildings. It took a herculean effort on some parts,” she said.
The buildings were a dangerous eyesore for years before they started coming down.
The idea, city leaders said, is to entice people to come back to Washington, do some shopping, grab a bite to eat and get to the area.
