What we know and don’t know about Calvin Crew, the man accused of killing Uber driver, mother of 4

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — One week after his arrest, there is still a lot we don’t know about Crew.

The night Christine Spicuzza disappeared, police say Calvin Crew was the last person to see her, and their chance encounter ended with her murder.

Christi was working that night as an Uber driver. She accepted the request for a ride, and picked Crew up from a home in Pitcairn.

According to County Homicide detectives, crew tried to rob her, then held her captive for almost an hour, while Christi begged for her life. Detectives say Christi’s dashcam recording shows Crew pressing a gun to her head, and Christi saying, “I’m begging you, I have four kids.”

The camera stopped when police say Crew grabbed it. Channel 11 asked police if they knew what happened in those moments.

“We do not know exactly what was happening at that time, but I’m sure it was terrifying for Christina,” Assistant Superintendent Vic Joseph said.

Eventually, police say, he took her into the woods in Monroeville and executed her.

According to sources, there’s no indication Christi fought back, which eliminates that as a possible motive.

Looking into Crew’s criminal history, we’ve reported that he was wanted on gun charges, and had robbery and theft charges from when he was underage. But nothing that suggested he would eventually be charged with the death of an Uber driver that he’d just met.

Over the last week, we’ve been trying to talk with people who know Calvin Crew to get some insight into his life and mindset. So far no one has been willing to speak with us.

Calvin Crew was scheduled for a hearing at municipal court on Friday, but late this afternoon, it was postponed until the end of March.
