Woman dies, firefighter suffers burns in fire at McCandless home

McCANDLESS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A deadly fire ripped through a home in McCandless Township on Monday morning, officials said.

Flames were first reported just before 6:30 a.m. in the 8900 block of Knoll Street.

The victim was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office as Faye Poshard, 68, of Allison Park.

Hoarding conditions inside the house made it hard for firefighters to reach the woman and to get the fire out, officials said.

“It was a fast-moving fire. Crews tried to make entry through the front door and right away was hit with the hoarding conditions,” Peebles District Volunteer Fire Company Chief Matt Williams said.

A dog and two cats also died in the fire.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital to be treated for burns. He’s expected to be OK.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
