Woman facing animal cruelty charges

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Westmoreland County woman is facing animal cruelty charges.

She's accused of trying to abandon her dog by tricking it.

According to police, Mandy Shaffer of Greensburg drove down Thomas School Road in Hempfield Township.

That's when officers say she stopped her car and then threw a ball so that her dog would go get it.

When the dog left the car, she just got back inside and drove away.

Someone else found the dog and told police what happened.

Investigators then tracked the dog back to Shaffer.

Channel 11 is working to find out what will happen to the dog.
