EAST PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A woman was found dead and a 5-year-old child emaciated when police responded to a home for a welfare check Wednesday night in East Pittsburgh, authorities said.
Police went to the Main Street home about 8 p.m. and discovered the home was in deplorable condition, describing it as a hoarding situation.
Investigators told Channel 11 News there was a strong odor of natural gas in the home.
The dead woman, 32-year-old Touzre White, had a number of preexisting health conditions, and foul play is not suspected, police said.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.
The child was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
Police have not revealed White's relationship to the 5-year-old, but neighbors told Channel 11 the little boy was her son.
The home has now been sealed shut by Allegheny County officials.
