PITTSBURGH — A woman fearing for her life jumped through a window early Friday morning to get away from a house in Pittsburgh’s South Side, police said.
The woman told police she was at the house on South 16th Street with two men and noticed padlocks on the doors. When she asked about them, one of the men, Robert Abbott, said he had women chained to a bed in the basement, according to a criminal complaint.
Fearing for her life, the woman ran to the front door in an attempt to get out, but she was unable to open it because of a deadbolt, the complaint said.
The woman then jumped out a first-floor window, leaving her with cuts to her face and arms, authorities said.
Police and EMS responded about 12:30 a.m., and the woman was taken to a hospital.
A search of the home led to the discovery of heroin and drug paraphernalia, as well as multiple doors with padlocks, the complaint said.
Abbott is facing charges following the incident. It was not clear how the three people knew each other.
"Usually, you know, we see him," said neighbor Sam Reihs. "He's a nice gu,y that's all I know about him."
