PITTSBURGH — A water main break sent water flowing down a hillside, flooding a basement and a yard in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood Wednesday morning.
The break in an 8-inch line was reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. along Curranhill Avenue.

As the water entered Kathryn Dyrwal’s backyard, it began filling her basement, where she keeps plenty of belongings. The water in the basement became nearly knee-deep.

Pennsylvania American Water and Beechview fire crews shut off the water and pumped out Dyrwal’s property.
Dyrwal said in addition to losing water service, her power was cut for additional safety reasons.
Restoration teams will be working with any customers who were impacted by the break.
