JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — At a time when it seems nearly every school district in the state is in remote learning mode due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two amateur woodworkers crafted a dozen desks for students in need.
According to officials with the Seneca Valley School District, the two retirees reached out to school leaders in October after seeing a story about someone who handmade desks on the local news. They were inspired to craft the desks from videos they found online and donated them to disadvantaged families in the district.
The white birch desks were handcrafted, stained and stand 24, 26, or 28 inches tall.
“We took great pride in squaring each angle, assuring the desks were completely level. We hope these desks will provide some children with a comfortable, private workspace in their home for schoolwork,” one of the donors said.
The pair wanted to remain anonymous.
School leaders said they had 10 students lined up to receive the desks and were working on finding two more recipients.
