SHARPSBURG, Pa. — A wrong-way driver hit multiple cars on Route 28 in Sharpsburg late Wednesday night before crashing, Pennsylvania State Police said.
The driver was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the highway, from the Fox Chapel exit to the Etna exit, about 11 p.m.
Police said the driver’s pickup truck hit multiple cars before crashing on the Etna on-ramp, which takes drivers from Route 8 to Route 28. The truck hit a concrete barrier and an embankment while going down the ramp.
The driver, a man who has not been identified, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital.
This was the second wrong-way crash on Route 28 in the last month. Two people were killed in January when a driver hit another car head-on near the East Ohio Street exit.
