Iconic actor Burt Reynolds, who died Thursday at the age of 82, was remembered Thursday by fellow actors and friends as many things, including a “living legend,” a “trailblazer” and a “true gentleman.
A family member issued a statement calling the suave movie star and 1970s-era Hollywood heartthrob “a generous, passionate and sensitive man who was dedicated to his family, friends, fans and acting students.”
Here are some of the tributes to Reynolds from social media.
Statement to the AP from Sally Field: “There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away. They stay alive, even forty years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy.” pic.twitter.com/A0v2ccfnVU

Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer. He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. He also had a great sense of humor - check out his Tonight Show clips. My thoughts are with his family.

Burt Reynolds often told me how much he loved my father. One night at dinner, he admitted that in his early days he tried to imitate Brando, but later he figured that if he could just be as funny as Jack Cassidy, he might have broader appeal. What an understatement. RIP Burt.

It was my pleasure to work with Burt Reynolds and spend some time with him. He was a wonderful guy a wonderful actor. No one had more fun making movies than Burt and it showed! I also learned a great lesson on how to treat people just watching him with his fans. So long Burt!

Sad to learn of death of Burt Reynolds, one of the nicest ppl I had pleasure to meet. Spent time w/ him at his home-he unselfishly gave time and money to assist young actors and teach at community college in Jupiter, FL. Classy, warm, and very funny. #BurtReynolds pic.twitter.com/vI8BizxckU

Burt Reynolds was hip, cool, and ceaselessly sexy. When he posed for this shot for Cosmopolitan magazine in 1972, it wasn't some cheap PR stunt. It was a wry commentary on the emerging sexual revolution. Farewell, Burt Reynolds. Thank you for the wonderful fun memories. pic.twitter.com/70odMsPSUL
