OCEAN CITY, Md. — A 76-year-old beachgoer is dead after he was struck by a large wave along Maryland's Ocean City shore, authorities said.
According to the Salisbury Daily Times, the wave knocked over the New York man Sunday afternoon at a beach near 16th Street. Emergency crews performed CPR on the victim, who was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, a city spokeswoman told the newspaper.
Authorities have not publicly identified the man, who had been "standing in knee-deep water" at the time of the incident, the Daily Times reported.
The news came about one month after a rogue wave in Oak Island, North Carolina, struck and killed a father of six, breaking the man's neck, according to The Associated Press. He was later identified as Lee Dingle, 37, of Raleigh, WSOC-TV reported.
