LOS ANGELES — The Marathon Clothing, the brand conceptualized and owned by the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, has closed.
Lauren London, Hussle's longtime girlfriend, posted a message on Instagram on Tuesday regarding the Los Angeles store's closure. The store's online market is fully functional, but the physical store will be closed for the foreseeable future. The official Instagram page for the store posted the same message on Monday.
“Thank you to everyone who’s placed an order with us these last couple of weeks,” the note, with The Marathon Clothing as its header, read. “We appreciate the unprecedented outpour of support. It means a lot to our team and family. We are working around the clock to fulfill every order placed. We ask for your patience as we get everything fulfilled and shipped out to you. Additionally, our flagship store is closed right now, but our online store is open 24/7 to serve you and is the only authorized retailer of our brand. Once again, thank you for your support.”
On March 31, Hussle, a Grammy-nominated rapper and leader in his community, was gunned down outside the South Los Angeles flagship store. The man accused of shooting Hussle, 29-year-old Eric Holder, was arrested April 2 in Bellflower, California.
In the weeks since Hussle’s death, online sales for the store have soared.
that several celebrity friends, including Meek Mill and The Game, went on shopping sprees.
