Police: 10-foot snake still at large, likely dormant after big meal

If you’re in Maine, you’ll want to keep an eye out for a 10-foot snake named “Wessie.”

“The snake was eating a large mammal, possibly a beaver (not joking),” the police department wrote on Facebook.

“A second officer arrived, and they both watched it swim across the river to the Brown Street side of the Presumpscot River where it disappeared in the thick underbrush. They estimated its length to be at least 10 feet,” the post added.

The last time the snake was spotted was on Wednesday around 3:30 a.m., according to the police department.

An officer tried to take a photo of the beast, but it clearly didn’t come out too well.

Some people have speculated about what the snake looks like and have created drawings and messages about it.

Someone even created a Twitter account for “Wessie.”

“We ask the public to be mindful of the snake’s presence in the area and immediately report any sightings so we can remove the animal from the river,” the police department wrote on the post.

Police believe the creature ate a large meal and will most likely remain dormant for a couple of days. They are also reminding people that if they spot it they shouldn’t try and capture it themselves.

Keep an eye out for “Wessie!”
