BATESVILLE, Ind. — Two boys in a southwestern Indiana city showed respect when they saw a funeral for an Army veteran last week, hopping off their bicycles and standing quietly while “Taps” was being played.
“I debated whether or not to post this, but with all the negative things going on, I thought this was needed,” Jacqi Hornbach wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Hornbach said she was dog-sitting for a friend on Thursday when she saw a funeral procession enter First Methodist Episcopal Cemetery in Batesville, which was across the street from her, WLWT reported. That is when she saw the two boys, the television station reported.
The serviceman, Charles Everett Yorn, died Aug. 29, according to his obituary. He was 89 and was born May 25, 1932, in Greenburg, Indiana. He was a longtime resident of Batesville.
“I had to snap a pic as I was so proud of these two young men,” Hornbach wrote on Facebook. “Their parents should be so proud, and I’m sure the serviceman was in heaven smiling down on them.”
One of Yorn’s granddaughters, Kendra Yorn Pierson, answered Hornbach’s Facebook post.
“That was my grandpa’s funeral,” Pierson wrote on the social media site. “Thank you so much to those two young boys.”
The post even elicited a response from the boys’ family members, People reported. Edgar Barajas and Sean Moody left comments identifying the boys as their sons, Cristiano “Cris” Barajas and Lane Moody, according to the magazine.
Sean Moody told WTHR that seeing his 8-year-old son in the photograph left him “totally amazed.”
“I know (Cristiano’s) parents are very proud, as we all are,” SeanMoody told the television station.
