MONROE COUNTY, Ala. — An Alabama woman is facing a murder charge in the Christmas Eve shooting death of a 10-month-old girl, officials said.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Tamika Stallworth was arrested Dec. 24 after deputies said she “opened fire into an occupied vehicle” on County Road 42 in Peterman. A bullet struck the face of infant Jamaya Austin, who died at a nearby hospital, authorities said in a Facebook post Thursday.
Family members told WALA and WKRG that Stallworth was Jamaya’s great-aunt. The woman had been aiming at another person in the car when she struck the baby, relatives told WKRG.
Stallworth is being held on $750,000 bond, the Sheriff’s Office said.
