According to a statement from Alaska State Troopers, the shooting occurred at a Fairbanks home on Tuesday, KTUU-TV reported.

Troopers responding to the scene found four children dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the television station.

Three other siblings in the home were not injured, KTVF reported, citing a dispatch report. An investigation revealed the 15-year-old male shot the three siblings and then himself.

Tim DeSpain, a spokesperson for the state troopers, said the ages of the deceased siblings were 5, 8 and 17, KTUU reported. The surviving children were all under the age of 7, DeSpain said.

The children’s parents were not home at the time of the shooting, troopers told the television station.

It was unclear what led to the shooting.

DeSpain told KTTU that the gun was a “family gun but beyond that, it’s all still part of the ongoing investigation.”
