ATLANTA — Officials with the United State Penitentiary in Atlanta confirmed Friday night that an employee of the prison had died and tested positive for coronavirus following her death.

Robin Grubbs started her career with the Bureau of Prisons in 2007 as a correctional officer. She was then promoted to a food service assistant in 2010 and in 2014, was promoted to a case manager at USP Atlanta.

Grubbs was found dead at her home on Tuesday. Her last day that she worked at the prison was last Friday.“She had been successfully screened prior to entry and was asymptomatic,” a news release said.

“Robin was a dedicated employee whose efforts sought to improve the lives of inmates and her fellow staff. She was promoting into a new reentry role in the agency which would have prepared her for future leadership opportunities. Robin will be sorely missed by her Bureau family,” prison warden William Woods said.

The Atlanta Federal Penitentiary is a medium security facility that houses 2,030 male offenders.
