CHICAGO — A baby girl is in critical condition after she was shot on a Chicago freeway, authorities said.

According to WFLD, the incident occurred about 11:15 a.m. Monday on the Bishop Ford Expressway. The 10-month-old girl, Ny’ori Askew, was in a car traveling northbound on Interstate 94 when she was shot, the news station reported.

The car’s driver, identified as a 21-year-old Chicago man, saw that the girl had been hurt and took her to an area hospital, Illinois State Police said in a news release. Neither he nor his 17-year-old passenger, the baby’s mother, was hurt, police said.

The child, who suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, is in critical condition at Comer Children's Hospital, according to WFLD.

Community organization I'm Telling, Don't Shoot said it is offering a $10,000 reward in the case.
