CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. — A woman is facing charges after police said a child in her care fell off a moving car and had to be placed into a medically induced coma.
Pennsylvania State Police told WJAC that the incident happened in early October, when Brandi Vaughn was driving in the Decatur Township area with multiple children in her vehicle. The children had gotten out of the vehicle to chase a deer that was on the road, and when the children returned to the car, one of them allegedly climbed onto the trunk.
When Vaughn started driving the car, the child fell off the trunk and hit his head. According to a criminal affidavit obtained by WTAJ, Vaughn did not seek medical attention for the child.
The child’s parents took him to the hospital immediately after they were notified of the incident, WJAC reported. The child was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma and treated for serious injuries to his face and head.
Vaughn was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment, and was released from jail on $10,000 bail, WTAJ reported.
