The awards ceremony showcased winners for country music videos and television performances as selected by fan voting. For the first time, the awards ceremony was held at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas; it was co-hosted by Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini.

Jelly Roll, 38, who was born Jason DeFord, won his awards for “Son Of A Sinner” -- male video of the year, breakthrough male video of the year and CMT digital-first performance of the year.

He also performed his hit “Need a Favor,” surrounded by gospel singers.

“I love y’all so much. Look at this -- three wins in one night,” Jelly Roll said. “I had started drinking because I didn’t think I’d win again.”

This year’s ceremony had a new twist, as CMT expanded its Breakthrough Video of the Year category into male and female categories for the first time, Deadline reported.

Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown won video of the year for “Thank God.”

Lainey Wilson won female video of the year for “Heart Like a Truck.”

Cody Johnson won performance of the year for “‘Til You Can’t” from the 2022 CMT Music Awards.

An all-star cast of guitarists, singers and sidemen paid tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd, which marked the 50th anniversary of its debut album this year, Rolling Stone reported. Also remembered was guitarist Gary Rossington, the last original member of the Southern rock band from Jacksonville, Florida. Rossington died on March 5 at the age of 71.

The tribute also honored “The Honkettes,” Lynyrd Skynyrd’s backup vocalists. Wynonna Judd and LeAnn Rimes joined in with the harmonies.

Four-time Grammy Award winner Gary Clark Jr. paid tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughn, the blues guitarist who died in a helicopter crash in August 1990.

Five-time Grammy Award winner Shania Twain was honored with the Equal Play Award for her role as a “visible and vocal advocate” for diverse voices in country music.
