NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina woman died from the coronavirus while she was on her honeymoon in South Africa, her family said.
Manuela Lopez, 49, loved her family, the rock band Guns ‘N Roses and purses, WIS-TV reported.
She also found a new love, getting married on Christmas. She was in South Africa with her husband on their honeymoon when she became infected with the coronavirus. She died seven days after contracting it.
“I did tell her how bad COVID was and the possibilities of what could happen to her if she got it, because I got it and I almost died,” daughter Adriana Lopez, who was hospitalized in December with severe coronavirus symptoms, told WIS-TV. “Can’t believe she’s gone. I look at all of our pictures and how happy she was and I still can’t believe she’s gone.”
A crowd-sourced funding account was setup to help pay for funeral expenses.
“Not trying to make an example out of my mother but my mom died, you don’t expect that kind of thing,” Lopez said. “You don’t expect it to be your family member. Don’t let it be your family member, don’t let it be yourself.”
“Can’t believe she’s gone, I look at all of our pictures and how happy she was and I still can’t believe she’s gone,” Adriana said. https://t.co/efLojLg2JV
