A hospital employee in Italy is accused of being paid for 15 years despite never showing up for work, investigators said.
Salvatore Scumace, 66, is being investigated for fraud, extortion and abuse of office after being assigned a job with the Ciaccio hospital in 2005 that he never showed up for, Italian media outlet Ansa reported.
Still, he was paid about $648,000 over that time.
He is also accused of threatening a manager to stop her from filing a report against him. She later retired, and his serial absenteeism went unnoticed by her replacements.
Six other managers are also under investigation.
