TAMPA, Fla. — A woman’s body was reportedly found in a trash bag Saturday morning by fishermen near the coast of Egmont Key in Florida. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case.
The woman’s body was reportedly found wrapped in a canvas bag inside a trash bag about 13 miles off the coast of Egmont Key, according to WFLA.
A spokesperson with the U.S. Coast Guard District 7, Erik Villa, spoke with the Tampa Bay Times and said that the body was reported Saturday around 11 a.m.
The Coast Guard and St. Petersburg police both worked together to retrieve the woman’s body, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The woman was described as being middle-aged by Villa.
The FBI is leading the investigation, a spokesperson for the Tampa office, Andrea Aprea, said, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The investigation is ongoing. The woman’s identity has not yet been released, according to WFLA. The state of her body and other additional information has also not been released.
