KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The 5-year-old girl left critically injured following a Feb. 4 vehicle crash involving former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid has awakened from an 11-day coma, her family confirmed Monday in an online post.

“Ariel is awake,” the family posted on the GoFundMe page established to assist with the girl’s medical expenses, KMBC reported.

Ariel Young was one of two children injured in the crash that Kansas City police said occurred near the team’s training facility next to Arrowhead Stadium. Britt Reid’s truck reportedly slammed into two other vehicles on the side of a highway entrance ramp, injuring the children who were sitting in the back of a Chevrolet Traverse.

Thirty-five-year-old Britt Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, was initially placed on administrative leave as the team’s outside linebackers coach immediately following the crash, but the franchise has since allowed the younger Reid’s contract to expire and confirmed he is no longer with the team, ESPN reported.

Police, who are investigating whether Britt Reid was impaired, said he told investigators that he had consumed “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the crash occurred.

The crash occurred three days before the Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, and the younger Reid did not travel with the team for the championship game, ESPN reported.
