Houston mural changed to read ‘Wash Ur Hands’ amid coronavirus outbreak 

HOUSTON — A Texas mural was changed to a timely message amid concerns of a coronavirus outbreak: “Wash Ur Hands.”

Parts of the iconic Houston mural “Be Someone” were repainted Sunday to the hygienic message.

The changes to the mural come a day after the first confirmed coronavirus death in the U.S., a Washington state man in his 50s.

The Houston Health Department told KTRK on Sunday there are no confirmed cases of the virus in the Houston area.

However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there are 11 cases of coronavirus in Texas, KTRK reported.

Nine of the cases are from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which had stopped in Japan. Of those cases, six cases tested positive by the CDC and the other three people tested positive in Japan, KTRK reported. All of those cases are under quarantine at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

The other two cases are people who had been in Wuhan, China, where the deadly virus is believed to have started. Those cases are quarantined at a hospital.

A small group of students and employees at Rice University are under self-quarantine Sunday afternoon after concerns were raised that a school employee might have been exposed to the virus.
