According to The Guardian, Swiatek offered the following when asked what being the first U.S. Open champion from Poland means not only to her but to her nation:
“I think especially right now, when we got to stay united and really support ourselves and stay together, I’m pretty happy that I can kind of unite people with our sport. I’m proud that tennis is getting more and more popular at home. I know that I’m repeating basically what Ons said. You’re such an inspiration as well, but yeah, we are trying to do our best to be good people and to be good examples.”
According to ESPN, Swiatek became only the seventh woman in the Open era to start 3-0 or better in major finals, trailing only Monica Seles with six wins and Naomi Osaka with four. Ashleigh Barty, Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati and Virginia Wade also won their first three major finals.
Saturday’s win brings Swiatek’s tour-level record to 55-7 in 2022, including seven trophies. She also won the French Open in June and is the first woman since 2016 to collect two major titles in a season, the sports news network reported.
