FORT DODGE, Iowa — An Iowa man has been charged with first-degree murder after police said he shot and killed his wife Wednesday.
According to WCCI-TV, police arrested Justin Hurdel, 43, of Fort Dodge, on Thursday, 18 hours after authorities discovered his 38-year-old wife, Maggie, dead from a gunshot wound at a South 19th Street home. Fort Dodge police, Webster County deputies and the Iowa State Patrol began searching for Hurdel and found him early Thursday near Quail and Nelson avenues, authorities said in a news release.
Hurdel was hospitalized for treatment of "injuries sustaned prior to law enforcement contact" and later booked into the Webster County Jail, the release said. In his mugshot, two bandages cover his nose in forehead.
WCCI, citing court documents, reported that Hurdel had threatened his wife multiple times since November 2019.
