‘Jeopardy!’ shares tribute to Alex Trebek after airing host’s final episode

“Jeopardy!” shared a video tribute to Alex Trebek Friday after the show aired its last episode featuring the longtime host.

Trebek died in November from pancreatic cancer. He had hosted the long-running quiz show since 1984.

“Simply the best,” the show said with a 90-second montage of Trebek. “Thank you, Alex.”

The touching video shows Trebek over the years in various costumes, interacting with contestants and in different locations, while the Peter Allen song “Once Before I Go” plays in the background.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March 2019 and vowed to keep hosting the show for as long as he was physically able. He died Nov. 8, 2020. The final episode did not include a farewell from Trebek because he did not realize when filming it would be his last. The episodes were filmed in October, about ten days before Trebek died.

The new season of “Jeopardy!” airs Monday, with former contestant Ken Jennings and several other guest hosts planned to fill in while the show searches for a replacement.
