A bank in California was left unlocked by mistake on Friday. Authorities said a customer who wanted to cash his Social Security check walked in the front door 30 minutes before the bank was supposed to open, authorities said.

It’s a good thing the man was honest. According to the Fresno Police Department, officers received a call about a man inside the Bank of the West in downtown Fresno at about 8:30 a.m. PST, KMPH-TV reported.

That was 30 minutes before the bank was supposed to open, according to its website.

After questioning the man, officers learned that keys were left in the front door of the bank and the man left himself inside.

The man told police he believed the bank was open and took a seat in the lobby, waiting for tellers to arrive, according to the television station.

After investigating, officers released the man, who was allowed to be first in line when the bank opened, KMPH reported.

It is unclear who was responsible for locking the front door and whether that person still has a job with the bank.
