UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan — A New York officer adopted a dog she helped save from a hot car a month ago on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.
According to WPIX, a dog was rescued on June 18 from a parked car. The dog was reportedly in the locked car for about two hours.
Concerned residents who saw the dog in the car called 911, the New York Police Department 19th Precinct posted on Twitter back in June. Officers found the car when they arrived and noticed it was off, windows were hot and the dog was in distress. The officers then broke the window to get the dog out and get him to a vet.
The NYPD 19th Precinct on Twitter Wednesday said that the dog will no longer be neglected because one of their officers, Officer Maharaj, adopted him. She was one of the officers who assisted in the dog’s rescue.
“A month ago, this sweet doggo was rescued after his owner left him in his hot locked car for hours; yesterday, one of it’s rescuers, Officer Maharaj, adopted him,” said NYPD 19th Precinct.
The ASPCA helped to take care of the dog since his rescue, NYPD 19th Precinct said.
The investigation however is ongoing.
