Officials: 3 children dead, 2 others injured at a house in Italy, Texas

ITALY, Texas — Officials say three children were found dead inside a house in Italy, Texas, on Friday. Two others were also injured.

In a news conference, Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Cozby said that officers with Italy Police Department were called out to a house on the 300 block of South Harris Street around 4 p.m., according to KXAS. The house was located near Stafford Elementary School.

Deputies found three people dead, the news outlet reported. The two injured children were taken to an area.

Cozby said a suspect has been detained in relation to this investigation, KXAS reported.

Child protective services told WFAA that the suspect had allegedly stabbed her children when one of their workers arrived at the house unannounced. The worker believed that the mother was “having unsupervised visitations with her children.”

Child protective services also confirmed to WFAA that all five children were related.

The sheriff’s office confirmed to WFAA that Child Protective Services had been at a house on the street where the crime occurred and called 911.

The sheriff’s office said that they were contacted by the Italy Police Department for assistance with the death investigation.

The ages of the children, the extent of the injuries for two of the children, and a possible motive have not yet been released.
