Priscilla Presley is contesting the “authenticity and validity” of the will left by her daughter Lisa Marie Presley, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Presley, 77, filed a challenge will last week in Los Angeles to a “purported amendment” filed in 2016 that ousted her as a trustee.
Presley is asking a judge to determine if the amendment, which named Lisa Marie’s eldest daughter, Riley Keough, and her late son, Benjamin Keough, as successor co-trustees, is valid.
Benjamin Keough died by suicide in 2020.
According to Times, the amendment removed Lisa Marie’s former business manager, Barry Siegel, along with Priscilla from the trust, replacing them with her children, and leaving Riley the sole trustee after her brother’s death.
Lisa Marie, the only child of Elvis Presley, inherited his estate when he died in 1977. Priscilla Presley and Elvis were divorced at the time of his death.
According to Presley, she and Siegel were first named co-trustees on Jan. 29, 1993. Lisa Marie’s trust was restructured in 2010.
Presley said in the court filing that the amendment “allegedly signed by Lisa Marie Presley” misspells her mother’s name and contains a signature that “appears inconsistent with (Lisa Marie Presley’s) usual and customary signature.”
Presley also maintains that the 2016 amendment, which she said was not notarized nor witnessed, was never delivered to her during her daughter’s lifetime “as required by the express terms of the (existing) trust.”
“Based on the foregoing, the Purported 2016 Amendment should be deemed invalid and the Trust, as amended and completely restated in 2010 is the controlling and authoritative document and its terms administered,” the petition reads.
According to the filing, Riley would become “a co-trustee with [Priscilla] with respect to the trust and all trust created thereunder.”
“Notwithstanding the foregoing, since Riley is over the age of 30, she may act as a co-trustee of her subtrust upon delivering a written instrument signed by her consenting to act in such capacity.”
Lisa Marie died earlier this month after suffering cardiac arrest at home near Calabasas, California. She was 54.
