Secret Santas in Michigan and Wisconsin were in the giving spirit, donating valuable rare coins to Salvation Army red kettles.
This is the ninth year an anonymous donor has put a rare gold South African Krugerrand into the red kettle for the Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division, WXYZ reported. The 1979 coin is valued at $1700 and was donated in the kettle in St. Clair Shores.
While this is the ninth year someone has donated a Krugerrand to the Salvation Army in Macomb County, the location was different this year, leading officials to believe this may be a different donor from past years, The Detroit News reported.
Another secret Santa in Madison, Wisconsin, donated a 1974 Krugerrand gold coin into a red kettle in Madison, WKOW reported.
The Salvation Army of Dane County posted a picture of the coin, valued between $2,000 and $2,500, on its Twitter page, and said it was the second gold coin donated to them this season.
