Recall alert: Health alert issued for Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw with Chicken

WASHINGTON — A health alert was issued for Trader Joe’s Crunchy Slaw with Chicken because its dressing may contain foreign material in the form of hard plastic pieces that pose a choking hazard, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In a news release, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert for the ready-to-eat chicken salad product which contained a Food and Drug Administration-regulated salad dressing that may have contained the foreign material.

The chicken salad product items were produced between March 3 and March 6, 2022. The following product is subject to the public health alert:

• 12-oz. plastic tray packages containing “Trader Joe’s CRUNCHY SLAW with Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing” and a use-by date from March 9, 2022, through March 12, 2022, printed on the label.

The products bear establishment number “P-6247″ inside the USDA mark of inspection, the news release stated. These items were shipped to retail locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.

The problem was discovered when an FSIS inspected establishment received notification from their salad dressing supplier that the dressing may have contained hard plastic. The establishment then notified FSIS of the issue.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumers eating this product, the news release stated.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators and are urging that they should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
