Mercedes-Benz has a warning for owners of more than 292,000 vehicles that have been recalled due to a braking issue — stop driving them.
The automaker said the recall covers some ML, GL and R-Class 2006 through 2012 model year vehicles, The Associated Press reported.
Moisture can get into the brake booster housing, causing corrosion. The corrosion can cause a vacuum leak, which would decrease brake performance.
There may also be mechanical damage to the booster and cars may not stop when a driver pushes the brake pedal. A foot-activated parking brake would still stop the vehicle, the company said, according to the AP.
There have been no reports of crashes or injuries attributed to the issue.
Mercedes-Benz said they will offer free towing so owners can safely get them to a dealership for servicing. Repairs will consist of removing a rubber sleeve so technicians can inspect the booster. They will replace parts as needed. If repairs cannot be done immediately, then dealerships will help find loaner vehicles until the repairs can be made, the AP reported.
Owners will start getting notified by letters on May 27.
