Ruth Bader Ginsburg discharged from hospital

BALTIMORE — Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was admitted to a Baltimore hospital early Tuesday for treatment of a possible infection, her office said.

Update 4:25 p.m. EDT July 15: The Supreme Court’s public information office reported that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was been discharged from a Baltimore hospital. She was “at home and doing well.”

Ginsburg, 87, was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital on Tuesday after experiencing chills and a fever.

Ginsburg, 87, was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore early Tuesday, her office said in a news release.

She was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington on Monday night after experiencing fever and chills. Ginsburg underwent an endoscopy Tuesday afternoon at Johns Hopkins Hospital to clear out a bile duct stent that had been installed in August 2019.

“The Justice is resting comfortably and will stay in the hospital for a few days to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment,” Ginsburg’s office said in its statement.

Ginsburg was also admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital on Nov. 22, 2019, after experiencing chills and a fever. She was released two days later.

Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court in August 1993 by President Bill Clinton, filling the seat held by Byron “Whizzer” White. She was the second woman appointed to the Supreme Court.

“I wish her the best,” President Donald Trump said during his Rose Garden news conference Tuesday evening. “She’s actually (given) me some very good rulings. ... I wish her the best.”
