CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a homicide in south Charlotte after someone reportedly opened fire in an ambulance early Wednesday morning.
Police said one person has been pronounced dead, but that person has not been identified.
In back and forth between the MEDIC crew and emergency dispatch, the crew reported shots had been fired inside the ambulance.
“10-33, 1033,” MEDIC said.
“What’s the location,” dispatch responded.
“10-33 shots fired inside an ambulance," MEDIC said.
In the dispatch call, you can hear crews saying MEDIC was on scene with a patient for “difficulty breathing” when shots were fired.
While on the scene, WSOC saw dozens of police cars lining the street and a large crime scene surrounding a MEDIC ambulance in the middle of the road.
Authorities have not said what led to the investigation, but sources told WSOC it did involve a MEDIC crew and they are OK.
Officials haven’t said if anyone is in custody.
