On Friday, the 55-year-old musician announced that Shane O’Connor had died. Police said a missing person case was closed after a body was found in the eastern coastal town of Bray, about 12 miles south of Dublin, according to The Associated Press.

Irish authorities first issued a missing-person statement on Thursday, CNN reported. Shane O’Connor went missing from Newbridge, County Kildare, and was last seen on Friday morning in the Tallaght, Dublin 24 area, according to The Guardian.

TMZ was the first outlet to report Shane O’Connor’s death.

“My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God,” the singer tweeted. “May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

Hours after her tweet, the singer uploaded a photograph of her son to her feed without a caption.

Sinead O’Connor shared her son -- her third of four children -- with musician Donal Lunny, People reported.

Sinead O’Connor became famous for her 1990 cover of Prince’s song, “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The singer grew up in an abusive family in Ireland and has been upfront about her own struggles with mental illness, according to the AP.
