LAS VEGAS — Raiders fever continues to swell before the team’s NFL season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Even a sphinx is rocking the silver and black.
The Great Sphinx of Giza replica, located outside the Luxor Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, was sporting a pirate patch over one of its eyes, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Monday night’s game will mark the first regular-season game in Allegiant Stadium with fans in the building, the newspaper reported.

“We’re ready to display our black and silver pride with the first-ever installation on the Luxor Sphinx,” Chuck Bowling, president and chief operating officer of Mandalay Bay and Luxor, told the Review-Journal. “Monday night is only the beginning for an exciting time in Las Vegas as we kick off the football season and celebrate with Raiders fans nationwide.”
The Luxor casino is located about a mile from Allegiant Stadium, KSNV reported.
Last year, the Lady Liberty statue at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino also sported a Raiders black home jersey, the Raiders said.
The Raiders went 8-8 last season in their first season in Las Vegas. The franchise originated in Oakland, California, and debuted in the 1960 season. The team played in Los Angeles from 1982 to 1994 before returning to Oakland in 1995.
