LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky teen voting for the first time decided not only to make his vote count, but to make it historically memorable, going to the polls dressed as Alexander Hamilton.
In his tailcoat and other colonial era clothes, it’s hard not to miss Michael Daniels.
Daniels, 18, a recent high school graduate and an aspiring theater performer, was looking forward to voting for the first time, the Louisville Courier Journal reported. He was up by 6:30 a.m. and at the polls by 7 a.m. when they opened.
“I wanted to be able to finally get the chance for my voice to be heard and show what I believe about who would make a good president, and truly change things for the better,” he said.
Voting was a breeze. He was in and out of the election booth in 15 minutes. Leaving the precinct was a challenge though.
“Some people were asking me to sing, but I was like, ‘Uh, I’m kind of too tired, I just woke up,’” he said. “It was really fun to see people’s reactions.”
Daniels has two other costumes from the musical that he often wears as well. He first became a big fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical “Hamilton” because of the songs.
“I like how he decided to mix history — how we won our independence and how this one Founding Father made this huge difference ... into this huge, modern, rap-style musical where it not only helps you learn about history but you have fun learning about it, with the songs they sing and the choreography.”
Michael Daniels is giving @Lin_Manuel a run for his money! https://t.co/8476oGjZ1V
