HOUSTON — A 16-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed as a group of teens played with a gun inside a vacant Texas home, authorities said.

According to KTRK and KPRC, the incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday as four minors, ages 16 and 17, gathered at an abandoned residence on Flagstaff Lane in east Harris County. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a 17-year-old was holding a handgun when it accidentally fired, striking a 16-year-old in the chest. The victim was pronounced dead at an area hospital, the news outlets reported.

Investigators have interviewed the teen who accidentally fired the fatal shot, KPRC reported. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether to file charges in the case, according to the news outlet.
