‘Two and a Half Men’ actress Conchata Ferrell dead at 77

SHERMAN OAKS. Calif. — Actress Conchata Ferrell, best known for her role as the sharp-witted housekeeper on “Two and a Half Men,” died Monday, according to a representative from Warner Bros. Television. She was 77.

Ferrell died of complications following cardiac arrest, KABC reported. The actress was hospitalized in May and spent more than four weeks in the intensive care unit, Variety reported.

Ferrell played Berta in 211 episodes of “Two and a Half Men” from 2003 to 2015. The show’s creator and executive producer, called Ferrell “one of the greats,” Variety reported.

Charlie Sheen, who starred in 178 episodes of the series as Charlie Harper, tweeted that Ferrell’s housekeeping “was a tad suspect,” but her “'people' keeping was perfect.”

“We called her Chatty. And we all loved her,” Lorre said in a statement. “Twelve years of highs and lows, and lots and lots of laughter. Through it all she was a rock. One of the greats. I was privileged to call her a friend.”

Ferrell also played the frontier housekeeper in “Heartland” in 1979 and the acerbic owner of Mystic Pizza in the 1988 movie that starred Julia Roberts, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“We are saddened by the loss of Conchata Ferrell and are grateful for the years she brought us laughs as Berta which will live on forever,” Warner Bros. TV tweeted.

Ferrell received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations in 2005 and 2007 for her role as Berta in “Two and a Half Men,” Variety reported.

Ferrell was also nominated for an Emmy Award in 1992 for her supporting role as attorney Susan Bloom in the television drama “L.A. Law,” KABC reported. She also appeared in such movies as “Network,” “Erin Brockovich” and “Mr. Deeds." On television, Ferrell appeared in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Hot L Baltimore,” and “Matlock.”

Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Ferrell graduated from Marshall University, Variety reported. She made her stage debut in 1973 as a member of the Circle in the Square theatrical company’s rendition of “Hot L Baltimore.” She reprised her role in “Hot L Baltimore” on television.
