LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. — An escaped wallaby that had been spotted hopping through multiple yards for days was captured on Wednesday, Pennsylvania wildlife officials said.
The marsupial was snared by game wardens around 11 a.m. after getting calls from residents who spotted it in a field near Bethel Township, PennLive reported.

Wardens shot the animal with a tranquilizer dart because they could not get close to capture it, PennLive reported. It was then taken to an undisclosed wildlife facility.
“We want to (capture him) in the safest way possible, and we want to try to get that wallaby to a facility where it can be well taken care of,” Game Warden Derek Spitler told WGAL.
Wallaby are a small marsupial native to Australia. They are allowed to be kept as a pet in Pennsylvania with a permit. However, wildlife officials said no one in the area has a license for one, WGAL reported.
“We have some suspicions (about ownership) but we haven’t been able to confirm them yet,” Dustin Stoner, with the Game Commission’s Southeast Region Office, told PennLive.
