CINCINNATI — Happy birthday, Ajani Joe!
According to WLWT, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden announced that the adorable eastern black rhino calf, born in 2020 to parents Seyia and Faru, turned 2 over the weekend.
The attraction took to Facebook on Monday to share a video from the birthday boy’s celebration, which included some tasty treats.
“Ajani Joe turned 2 yesterday but celebrated the milestone today due to the rain yesterday,” the zoo captioned the post. “Ajani Joe is a critically endangered black rhino, so he is very important to the survival of his species.”
Fewer than 600 mature eastern black rhinos remain in the wild, but the population appears to be increasing, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
Ajani Joe’s birthday came about six weeks after another Ohio facility, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, welcomed a female eastern black rhino calf named Dalia.
