Wild hogs are taking over Texas neighborhood

SIENNA, Texas — Home security camera footage shows a big problem in the Sienna neighborhood of Fort Bend County, Texas, where dozens of wild hogs are seen running through the street.

The homeowner whose camera caught the video told KHOU that he originally pulled the video to look at because of the damage done to his and his neighbors’ yards. “You’ve seen one hog, OK,” Garner told KHOU, “and then you see the whole family troop filing in. It’s just really bizarre.”

Sightings of feral hogs in Sienna aren’t new. Some residents have reached out to their homeowner association for assistance but have been told nothing can be done because the animals are considered wild and invasive, KPRC reported.

Feral pigs were first brought to the United States in the 1500s by early explorers. Today, they are considered a “dangerous, destructive, invasive species” by the USDA. Researchers have estimated that each wild pig carries an associated cost of $300 per year, and annual costs associated with wild pigs in the U.S. are likely close to $2.1 billion, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife.
