CAMP VERDE, Ariz. — A woman died after falling about 20 feet from a cliff in central Arizona on Monday, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Jennifer Petri, 44, fell from an area above West Clear Creek. The area is known by local residents as “The Bluffs” and is located about 200 feet above the creek, KSAZ-TV reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, a friend of Petri’s called at about 4 p.m. MST stating that the victim had fallen off the cliff and was “no longer visible.”
A search team spotted Petri’s body at the base of a cliff just above the water’s edge, according to KPNX-TV.
“The terrain was steep and dangerous, making it difficult for rescuers to conduct a search,” the sheriff’s office said.
Her body was airlifted out of the canyon, according to the television station.
The sheriff’s office is still trying to determine how Petri fell. An investigation is ongoing.
