NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Coast Guard staged a rescue Wednesday when a car was found in the water at Niagara Falls.
The car was submerged about 50 yards from the brink of the American Falls when helicopters lowered a Coast Guard officer down, The Buffalo News reported. Videos posted to Twitter from the scene show the officer being lowered down.
Witnesses reported seeing the car floating down the Niagara River before it caught on the rocks, WGRZ reported. Police said some witnesses reported that the car went into the water between two bridges at Goat Island.
New York State Park Police said the woman taken from the car was in her late 60s, but the investigation into what caused her to go into the river is ongoing, WIVB reported. The victim was not identified.
